What did you do last winter? Was it produce a beautiful harvest of fine crops? We’re not trying to make you feel bad or anything, but that’s what the Fuyan Coffee Cooperative in China did. This roast to order seasonal specialty was produced by forward-thinking, creative farmers in their harvest in Dec ‘16 – Feb ‘17. We’ve managed to bag 45kgs, which is just over 200 bags.
Now, when you think ‘coffee origins’ you’ll probably think of a few other countries before you get to China. But this specialty is produced in beautiful, fertile lands in Yunnan, one of China’s main coffee growing regions. With a passion for considered processing techniques, this particular farm has been able to push boundaries year after year.
The farmers have seen the potential of consistently well-processed and carefully sorted cherry and – oh wow – has it worked! Specialty coffee is cupped, judged and scored for quality on a 100 points scale. To put that into perspective only 5% of the entire world’s coffee harvest is good enough to score over 80 points (an outstanding first!) and this season they’re regularly breaking through the 84-85 point mark. So, do you want to be the first to try something outstanding? We’ll leave that question to percolate.
