About this coffee

Finca Santa Paula is located at around 1,375m near the small town of San Pedro Carcha, in the Alto Verapaz region of Coban in north-central Guatemala.

Typically wet and humid year round, the regional coffee profile is defined by Anacafe coffee as ‘Coban Rainforest’ such is the level of precipitation

A UK exclusive, we  support the local school with an annual donation based on sales of the retail packs of Guatemala Pocola coffee, and we are proud to have a small hand in the future of the community.  Furthermore in recent years have actively looked to support the owners and managers at Santa Paula by working together on new offerings to raise quality further and explore new the potential of processes and varietals that the cooler and wetter local climate may give.

Although the climate aids many quality characteristics, the drying natural coffee with the cherry still on the seed in the cooler climes at the farm may risk excessive drying times, giving opportunity to spoil the coffee. Therefore, the coffee is transported down to our friend Ricardo Zelaya at Santa Clara in Antigua. The more stable and warmer climate paired with the patio drying and the covered greenhouse as a Santa Paula mean the process can be much more controlled and suitable drying times achieved. Having visited Santa Clara in 2016 as well, it’s easy to state the coffee is in good hands.

The full body and gentle spiciness of the washed estate coffee we’ve been familiar with for the past 7 years combined with the sweetness and body of a typical natural process makes for an intriguing combination.  True to expectation, the mouthfeel is huge and gives a massive hit of sweetness. A powerful and distinctive natural that has gained very favourable reputation since launch last year.

Flavours reminiscent of Turkish delight, milk chocolate, sweet floral aromatics, and highly morish.
