ASOPACAFA is not just a crazy-ass acronym. Well, it is, but thankfully it’s not just that. More importantly, it’s an 78-strong co-op from Santa Rita, nestled deep in the Columbian Andes.

It’s a difficult place to grow coffee. What with the guerrilla warfare, poor infrastructure and pests such as rust and berry borer to contend with, you’ve got to tip your hat to these guys. They’ve really gone all out to grow the good stuff.

But now a designated ‘post-conflict’ zone, we’ve got the chance to source and share some really exceptional coffee. We visited in 2018 for the first time, and it was a big deal for the village. Turns out we were the first European visitors in living memory! Even the local school turned out to witness the cupping.

It’s no surprise that we found some seriously impressive coffee. This one really stood out. A huge, bold body, with high sweetness and perfectly balanced acidity. Washed and sundried, it’s about the best example of a classic Colombian coffee you could hope for.
