Tsegaye Hagos is a beanhead. You heard. And no it doesn’t mean he has a freakishly small head, it’s a moniker we just made up to try to explain how much this guy loves coffee. His washing stations have a reputation for some of the most consistent and delicious coffee coming out of the Ethiopian region of Guji. It’s why all the best coffee smallholders turn up in his yard. Think of him as the Kelis of Ye Genet – but switch up the beverage.

The area’s coffee culture has sprung up from the Gedea people who left Yirgacheffe, but took a whole lot of coffee growing nous with them when they went. They know what to pick, how to pick and when to pick it, to find beans with the deepest and richest flavours. Which is good, because we REALLY like our coffees to have deep and rich flavours.

Tsegaye and the Gedea people have clearly got a good thing going on – and as a result good things are starting to happen in the community too, such as the building of a new school house for example. And that’s just the beginning. So Tsegaye, the growers of Gedea… we salute you!
