You Need
(For Both Recipes)
- Medium ground Grumpy Mule coffee (like sea salt)
- 2 heaped dessert spoonfuls (about 17g)
- AeroPress filter
- Hot water just off boil (92-96C). Extra taste point if filtered.
- AeroPress paddle or spoon
- Scales
- Timer
- Mug
Traditional Recipe
- Pop clean AeroPress filter into the filter holder and screw onto the main chamber. Place AeroPress over a cup or server and rinse with hot water.
- Put ground coffee into the chamber.
- Place your AeroPress on a set of scales and set to zero.
- Start your timer and pour up to the number 1 line (50ml) over the coffee. Fresh coffee will bubble (this is gas releasing and called blooming). Stir the coffee with your spoon and make sure all coffee is wet.
- After 30 seconds top up to the number 4 line (250ml) and leave to brew for 1 minute.
- After time hits 1m30s, plunge the top part of the AeroPress slowly over 30 seconds. Stop when you hear a hissing sound.
- Pour and enjoy.
Inverted Recipe
- Pop clean AeroPress filter into the filter holder and screw onto the main chamber. Place AeroPress over a cup or server and rinse with hot water.
- Place the plunger into the AeroPress just shy of 1cm, making sure it is flat and level. Place the AeroPress on your scales with the piston side down (or upside down).
- Put ground coffee into the chamber.
- Zero your scales and set your timer to start.
- Pour 30ml of just-off boiling water over the ground coffee. Mix with a spoon and make sure all coffee is wet.
- After 30 seconds, top up with an additional 200ml of water and leave for 1 minute. When your timer is on 1m30s stir three times with your spoon.
- Put the lid on and place your mug upside down on the brewer. While carefully supporting both the mug and brewer, flip everything over so the AeroPress is now above the mug. Be careful, that water is hot.
- Plunge for 30 seconds and stop when you hear a hissing sound.
- Pour and enjoy.
